Vietnam Divides the Nation
When Promoting a cause, a peaceful protest is better than a violent protest

In the 1960’s social, political, and economic circumstances made peaceful protests more successful than violent protests.

Hawks Vs. Doves
The Hawks and Doves were the respective political party platforms from 1964. The hawks had a more democratic party stance and wanted to keep a strong military influence in Vietnam, They believed that America should stay and fight the war till the end, and that the more people in Vietnam at one time was better for America to show our strength. The Doves on the other hand believed in a more Republican stance. They believed that America should leave the war in Vietnam and not have any American influence in Vietnam. It wasn't our war to fight so we shouldn't have been in there. Although not many protests that attacked each others group was made, They had to make common ground on certain things and reach a medium. Such as when they had to reach a common ground on how many troops would be sent to Vietnam. They found that through peaceful discussion and communication, more progress was made on the behalf of the troops and America in war.

Economichttp://robertluisrabello.com/just-war/During World War One many people protested the financial toll, as well as the loves lost during war. |
Anger at the Draft- Economic level made a difference.
The economic stand point of Americans greatly effected where you were placed in the war. Many Americans that had a lower economic stance and were part of a working class family were most likely to be drafted and sent to Vietnam. Because they were unable to afford college. The men that were drafted were put in combat units on the front line were they faced grave dangers. During the year of 1969 62% of death battles were draftees. Those who had a higher economic stance and could afford to go to school were less likely to never placed in the draft. 10% of military personnel were African Americans and during this time they had very few rights so they were also placed in the front lines to face grave danger. Many of the Soldiers involved in this unfair and unjust Draft fought it, Many protested along with the SDS and many schools encouraged their students to voice the opinion publically.

During the Progressive Era the work hours, minimum wage, and child labor were the major issues American protested.Progressive Era
The Progressive Era was a time that the economy flourished with all the businesses and the economy at a all time high. But with all the great success, there has to be a catch. In fact there was many business cut wages and added time to the work day and hired children as an easy source of labor and a cheep source as well. It wasn't uncommon for children to work on family farms, but factories and mines presented far more dangerous conditions. When businesses cut wages and added time to the 8 hour work day, workers began getting angry and decided to conduct Sit ins. This stated that they wouldn't work until ALL the problems have been fixed. Business men realized that they needed the workers and compromised and also cut child labor.
During the Great Depression many people protested against Hoover for what happened.Great Depression and New Deal
The Great Depression was one of the most depressing and dark times in American history. So many people out of work, homes, and without food. Parents having to sell children just to try to give them a better life. People living in card board boxes along the rail road, called Hoover Villes. Many people protested against President Hoover and all he was trying to do to get out of the depression. Many people protested the government stating that they were not doing all they could to get America out of the depression. IN the end none of the violent protest worked, because none of that got them out of the depression. The only thing that worked was working together to get out of the depression.

The Roaring 20's were full of protest. that were all successful because they promoted their cause in a peaceful way.Roaring 20's
The Roaring 20s was a time that was full of protest, one of the biggest protest was women's rights. During the roaring 20's the women were sick of being in a traditional setting where they were forced to wear long dresses and maintain the women image of being classy not trashy. But as they gained more rights they were beginning to push the limits on what was appropriate, they cut their hair and shortened the skirts. they began drinking, smoking, and dancing. All in efforts for men to take them seriously. All protest were in no way violent and were quite peaceful. Soon enough bosses started to hire women during the war because all the men were gone. Now women have all the rights and respect as men. Because they protested in a way that was cool and collected.

Significance and Current Events
The protest for Rights continues and it has been found that the more peaceful the more effective.

Even today in current America, people protest the rights and question the government in what they are doing for our people. One of the biggest protest is the fight for women's rights, Many women have been treated as an item and not as a person, they have not been given the same wages as men, the same jobs as men, and women are constantly being questioned in what they can do. Too many women in history have fought for us to become more equal with men. The fight is not over because Women are trying and that all that matters, we are fighting for equal rights.
