Dating all the way back to the progressive era, Women's Rights has become a huge movement in the United States. Recently, there has been a huge uproar of women (and men too) sharing their opinions on just how horribly they feel girls are perceived and treated in today's society. All over social media, there have been posts about the spread of the ever-growing "rape culture" of our country. Many Americans are concerned that we are surrounded by the idea that rape is a woman's fault. In addition to this, recent statistics have shown that women still receive lower wages than men on average. Females all over America know that their rights are being violated and are standing up to fight for equality.
Women unfortunately fall victim to horrible crimes every day. According to rainn.org, every 2 minutes women are sexually assaulted in the united states. Not only that, but 44 percent of these victims are under the age of 18, and 80 percent are under 30. Even worse, 97 percent of these sexual offenders won't spend a day of their lives in jail. So many women around the country are being abused, and now they are taking a stand against it.
Women should not have to feel scared or nervous every time they pass by a man on the street. They should feel a sense of security knowing that these types of people are in jail. Americans have the right to security. Women are pushing for this all around the world.
