Early International Cold War
The Governments responsibility during the Cold War was to prevent communism from expanding while obtaining peace and protection for the United States and Soviet Union.
The Marshall Plan was an organization that was created to help aid Europe after the destruction in WWII and to keep the idea of communism under wraps. The Marshall Plan was actually essential to most countries, because the US was making all resources for Europe to keep there from being another world depression. Sense the US was making so many resources they needed to hire more workers putting less of a strain on the US. The Marshall Plan made sure that communism wasn’t an option or that people were even considering it there for protecting and keeping the peace in the United States.

The economic state that the United States was in during the early cold war was not a threat to stop expanding communism. The United States economy was at a high because of the Marshall Plan that was put into action after WWII. Without the Marshall Plan the United States economy could have spiraled out of control from the war efforts. |
The propaganda that was used during the beginning of the Cold War was made to show how bad that communism would be for our country and others. The picture to the right is an example of a propaganda poster that was posted to poles all around the country. The photos are a great was to keep communism from expanding because the citizens begin to fear communism. |

Franklin D. Roosevelt was the 32nd president of the United States, and he was a big part in the Cold War and obtaining communism. He was in office from 1934-1945 and he was able to get the United States through the great depression and WWII. He tried to make a plan that would keep peace in the postwar between the Soviet and West, but his plan failed. If Roosevelt’s plan had succeeded then the Cold War may have never taken place and the thought of communism would have been nonexistent. |
Throughout the year many topics are able to connect to US as a world power, WWI, roaring 20’s, the great depression/new deal, and the progressive era to the early Cold War, helping to obtain communism and keeping the peace.

The United States went to war with Spain because the United States saw Cuba trying to gain their independence from Spain, and decided to help Cuba out because if Spain continued to have control over Cuba it could be a major threat. During the Cold War the United States saw the Soviet Union as a threat. So this lead to the United States going to war with Spain in 1898 and Soviet Union in 1947. |

The Progressive Era was a time when the citizens thought that it should be the government to come in and fix everything. This included roads and trash clean up and so on. The government did this so that the citizens would be pleased and not go to the thought of communism. If the government would not have gone into cities and helped out people could have thought that communism was a good idea. |

WWI was where the conflicts between Europe had initially started that eventually lead to the issue of communism. When the United States decided to help aid Europe after WWII the Soviet Union wasn’t a big fan of this. They wanted people to think communism was the only answer. So WWI was just a start to all the conflicts that will happen with Europe. |

People believed that when the great depression was in its hardest point that communism was the solution. The United States obviously didn’t want communism because they knew the long-term effects, but struggling citizens were just looking for a short time answer. The government had to take control and let people know the long-term effects of communism and how it could seriously damage the United States. |
